Miniature Pinschers - Breed Origins
Miniature Pinschers originated in Germany. The Miniature Pinscher is frequently called "King of the Toys." It was known as the Reh Pinscher because of its resemblance to a small red deer. An important point to recognize is that the Miniature Pinscher is not a miniaturized Doberman.
The Miniature Pinscher, also known as the "Min-Pin," has been bred in Germany for hundreds of years. One theory is that breeding the German Pinscher to Dachshunds and Italian Greyhounds to obtain a smaller-sized dog developed it. It was one of the breeds that are included in the Pinscher-Schnauzer Club, which was formed in Germany in the 1980s.
In Germany, its country of origin, the Miniature Pinscher was recognized as a breed more than 200 years ago. The United Kennel Club recognized the Miniature Pinscher in 1936.
Miniature Pinschers - General Care Tips
The Miniature Pinscher has a smooth, shorthaired coat that is quite easy to groom. Combing and brushing with a bristle brush will keep the Miniature Pinscher's coat in a good condition. The Miniature Pinscher is an average shedder and the loose hair can be removed by wiping the coat with a damp washcloth.
The Miniature Pinscher does well in apartment conditions. The dog is rather active indoors and a yard is not a necessary requirement. Provided Miniature Pinschers are given enough opportunity to run and play and are properly fed and cared for, they are sure to be healthy dogs.
